October, sketch-comedy group Elephant Larry walked away
with the title of “New York City’s Best Comedy
Writers” at the first ever Sketch Fights competition.
Held over the course of two days at Caroline’s on
Broadway and The Belt in New York City, the competition
pitted eight of the city’s top comedy groups against
each other, judged by both their audience and an expert
panel. Other competitors included writers from The
Daily Show, The Cowboy & John from The Man
Show and teams from the Upright Citizens Brigade
Theater.
The groups faced off for six rounds, with
the Elephant eventually claiming victory after a ten-minute
sketch-off against UCB’s Respecto Montalban.
Elephant Larry is comprised of Geoff Haggerty,
Stefan Lawrence, Chris Principe, Jeff Solomon and Alexander
Zalben. The group has been a finalist in the U.S. Comedy
Arts Festival and at the Emerging Comics of New York awards.
